Raiders Of The Lost Ark is arguably the greatest Indiana Jones movie, but it was not an easy task to shoot. It was a logistical nightmare. Steven Spielberg was a genius though. He discovered that the film Das Boot was being shot nearby, and he had a submarine exterior prop.

Steven borrowed the prop to film his scene. This saved the production a lot of money. The Das Boot production was happy to share their resources. It could have been quite different.
