His older brother Fred Savage is an actor/director, and Kala Savage is his elder sister. His grandparents were Jewish, from Poland, Ukraine and Germany. He and his siblings were raised in Reform Judaism.

Savage began acting when he was eight years old. In 1988, he appeared as Matthew Lacey on the comedy serial “Dear John”. He played the role of Judd Hirsch’s son in this first television role.
He played Sam, a smart little boy, in 1992’s film “Big Girls Don’t Cry…They get Even” and was also featured in “She Woke Up”, a television movie.
Ben became famous for his role as Cory Matthews, the main character on the TV sitcom “Boy Meets World”, which aired from 1993 to 2000.
