The Alfa Group sold just half of TNK to British Petroleum in 2003 for US$6.15billion. This was the largest foreign investment in Russia, equivalent to $ 8 billion in invested assets.
TNK-BP was purchased by the state-owned Rosneft in 2012 for $56 billion. The sale was ongoing as of early 2013. Reuters called it “one of the largest energy takeovers in history”, with the total deal valued at $55 billion.
