He felt that the financial sector was changing in a way that was not beneficial to him and his family in the 1990s and accepted a full-time position with CNBC in 1999.

Santelli’s comments about the Homeowners Affordability & Stability Plan in 2009 attracted attention. Santelli broadcast from the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and accused the government of “promoting poor behavior”. He also suggested the possibility of a Chicago Tea Party.
