Tuberville served as the United States junior senator from Alabama starting in 2021. He was Auburn University’s football coach from 1999 to 2008.

From 1995 to 1998, he served as the University of Mississippi’s football head coach. Tuberville won the Walter Camp Coach of the Year and Bear Bryant Coach of the year awards in 2004.

Early Life

Thomas Hawley Tuberville, a child of Thomas Hawley Tuberville, was born in Camden, Arkansas on the 18th of September 1954. Tuberville is the child of Olive Nell and Charles R. Tuberville Jr. 

He graduated in 1972 from Harmony Grove High School. Tuberville was a student at Southern Arkansas University. He graduated with a B.S. In 1976, he received a Bachelor of Science. In 2008, he was elected to the Southern Arkansas University Sports Hall of Fame.

Career

After graduation, he began to coach football at Hermitage High School. He served as both an assistant and head coach for two seasons. From 1980 to 1984, he served as an assistant football coach at Arkansas State University.

Tuberville began working as a graduate assistant for the University of Miami in 1986. A few years later, Tuberville was named the university’s defensive coach. He was a coach for future Hall of Famers Ray Lewis and Warren Sapp as well as Dwayne Johnson.

Tuberville served as the 1994 defensive coordinator for Texas A&M University. Tuberville took over as head coach of the University of Mississippi’s Ole Miss Rebels the following year. He would spend four seasons there and be later named the AP’s SEC coach of the year in 1997.

He was the Auburn Tigers’ 1998 head football coach. He led the Tigers to eight consecutive bowl appearances. He was again named the AP SEC Coach of the Year.

Tuberville was elected to the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame. Tuberville was appointed Texas Tech University’s football head coach in 2010.

He retired as a football coach in 2017. He went on to become a permanent member of ESPN’s broadcast team.
