Captain Jack Sparrow is more well-known for his drunken weaving than for his awe-inspiring action sequences. But Pirates of the Caribbean, and subsequent sequels, Jack had to get out of some trouble in spectacular fashion. Tony Angelotti was the perfect man to help Jack. The stuntman was Johnny Depp’s replacement on numerous occasions throughout the film.

They were more than just coworkers. They were, and still are, good friends. After filming, Depp and Angelotti would share glasses of wine in Depp’s truck. Depp gave Angelotti a gift when the franchise ended. Celebrity jeweler Neil Lane was commissioned by Depp to create Angelotti a replica of the Dead Man’s Chest’s ring of thieves.

Unfortunately, he suffered some serious injuries in one of his stunts. Angelotti suffered a fracture to his pelvis, damage to his bladder and femoral blood vessels, as well as internal bleeding while working on the Disney feature.
