Celine Dion was born in Quebec on March 30, 1968. At just 12 years old, she started her music career. After a brief hiatus, she returned with the intention of entering the English-speaking market.

10 A Star Is Born

Celine Marie Claudette was born in Charlemagne Quebec, a village about 24 kilometers northeast of Montreal. She was the youngest of 14 children to Therese, a homemaker, as well Adhemar, a butcher. Music was already an important part of the Dion family before Celine arrived.

She was actually named after “Celine”, a song by French singer-songwriter Hugues Aufray that had been recorded two years prior to her birth. This song was one of Aufray’s most well-known and translated into English many years later.
