Cobie did not get to play a superhero in a live-action film but was surrounded by them when she was cast as Maria Hill, a SHIELD agent in The Avengers (2012). Joss Whedon, her dear friend, was the film’s filmmaker. He offered her the Avengers role and she signed on immediately without reading the script.

Whedon said that she could play Maria Hill, and Cobie responded, “I’m going do it.” Cobie eventually reprised the role in several Marvel Studios movies as well as a few episodes of Agents of SHIELD. According to the Toronto Star, she loves being a regular member of the Marvel Universe. She describes it as “you are constantly challenged.” It’s a completely new world to me.
