In August 1975, he made his debut with the team in a 2-0 loss to Luton Town. He won his chance after Mick Mellows suffered a knee injury. Bobby McGuinness set him up and he scored his first senior goal against Bolton Wanderers in the next match.

Chris continued to play regular football at Fratton Park during the 1975-76 season, when “Pompey”, who was then relegated from the Second Division, was in last place.

Frank Burrows, who previously coached Kamara at Swindon, resigned him to Portsmouth. After Fred Callaghan, Brentford manager agreed to a deal that would have him swap with David Crown in October 1981, he was transferred again.

After joining Dave Bassett’s Sheffield United loan team in 1992, Kamara made a return to the Premier League. He made the switch from Kenilworth Road, Bramall Lane to permanent, despite not being able to secure a regular place in the first-team during the 1992-93 season.
