Jayson Williams was born in South Carolina, on 22 February 1968.

Williams is the child of Elijah Joshua and Barbara Williams. He is Polish, Italian, African-American, and of Polish descent.

His mother worked in the Gouverneur skilled nursing facility, in lower Manhattan. Williams attended Christ The King Regional High School, and St. John’s University in New York City. Williams also played basketball for both of them.

Career

In 1990, Williams was chosen by the Phoenix Suns. After Williams was selected by the Suns, his draft rights were traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. He was then given a draft pick in 1993. Williams was traded from the New Jersey Nets to his bench position with the 76ers after two seasons.

After only 12 starts with the Nets his first three seasons, he was finally promoted to a full-time position in the 1996-97 campaign.

Williams was back to his best in the next season. He led the league’s offensive rebound percentage as well as offensive rebounds. Williams finished the season in the top five with total rebounds, offensive rating, rebounds per match, total rebound percent, and total rebound percentage.

In 1999, his career ended abruptly after he fractured his right leg. Williams was forced to undergo career-ending surgery on the following day. He received a plate with five screws and was then able to walk again.

When he was 32, Williams announced his retirement. Williams was in the first of a six-years, $90million contract when he sustained the injury.
