Kenneth Ray Rogers, aka Kenny, was born in Houston, Texas on 21 August 1938. Rogers is the child of Edward Floyd Rogers, a carpenter and Lucille Rogers, a nurse assistant.
He was the first in his family to graduate high school from the Jefferson Davis High School in Houston.
Career
Rogers started his music career with the band ‘The Scholars in the mid-1950s. After the release of their single, “Poor Little Doggie”, Rogers’ band rose to fame. He released a minor solo in 1958 titled “That Crazy Feeling”.
He was a member of the American folk music group ‘The New Christy Minstrels’ in 1966. He was a singer and double bass player in the group, but he wasn’t happy with his association with it as it didn’t offer him the success that he desired.
He formed the Minstrel group, “The First Edition”, in 2005 with Terry Williams, Mike Settle and Thelma Camacho.
His eighth studio album, “Gideon”, was released in 1980. It, like its predecessors, reached the top of the country and pop charts. He also released the international hit, “Don’t Fall In Love With a Dreamer”, a duet with Kim Carnes.
Rogers released the album, “There You Go Again”, in 2000. It featured singles, “There You Go Again”, “He Will, She Knows”, and “Homeland”.
He released the album, “The Love of God”, under Cracker Barrel in 2011. He released the album entitled “Amazing Grace” and the holiday album “Christmas Live!” the following year.
