Ronnie Dean Coleman was a Louisiana native who was born in Monroe on May 13, 1964.

Coleman left college to become an accountant, but he was unsuccessful in finding work. Instead, he worked at Domino’s Pizza. After graduating, Coleman became an Arlington police officer. Coleman served as an officer in the Texas Police Department from 1989 to 2000. He was also a reserve officer until 2003.


Gustavo Arlotta was Coleman’s co-officer and suggested that Coleman join the Metroflex gym, which is run by Brian Dobson. Dobson offered to train Coleman for the Mr. Texas bodybuilding contest and he received a free lifetime membership.

He rose to prominence in the professional bodybuilding circuit when he entered his first Mr. Olympia competition. In 1994, he was 15th, then 10th in 1993, 6th in 1996, and finally 0th in 1997.
