Top 10 Things You Have Never Heard Story of Meryl Streep

8 Moving to New York

After graduating from Yale in 1975, Streep moved to New York City and was given her first stage role as the manager in “Trelawney Of the Wells”. Her co-stars were also promising young actors and her friends: Mary Beth Hurt, and John Lithgow. The Public Theatre became her second home. She was able to play both the parts of “27 Wagons Full of Cotton” as well as “A Memory of Two Mondays”.

Each play was performed immediately after the last. Meryl had to change into a completely different character during the brief intermission. The stunned audience that saw both plays was shocked to see the same actress in two completely different roles. Meryl was nominated for a Tony Award for “27 Wagons”.
